Project Overview
This course, based on the first chapter of Stephen E. Lucas’s “The Art of Public Speaking, 11th Edition”, was designed to help middle and high school students enhance their public speaking skills in preparation for a speech and debate competition.
Challenges
The project had a tight deadline of 2 weeks, requiring quick yet effective design and development to ensure the course met the needs of the students.
Solution/Approach
Using Rise 360, I developed an interactive course that deconstructed essential public speaking concepts into easily digestible modules. My approach centered on creating a learner-centric experience, integrating multimedia elements such as videos and interactive quizzes to cater to different learning styles. The use of real-world scenarios and practice exercises aimed to boost learners’ confidence and retention.
Key Features
- Interactive Lessons: Developed with real-world public speaking scenarios to facilitate practical understanding.
- Multimedia Integration: Incorporating videos and audio clips to enhance engagement and illustrate key concepts.
- Quizzes and Practice Exercises: Designed to test knowledge, reinforce learning, and provide immediate feedback.
Results/Impact
The course was well-received, effectively preparing students for their competition by equipping them with essential public speaking skills in a condensed timeframe. The interactive nature of the course not only improved their understanding but also increased their confidence in public speaking. Students were able to achieve great results during the competition as well.
